Pedroia to fans: thanks for the vote but family has to come first!

First Pedroia missed a regular season game , now he’s bowing out of the All Star game. Why? Because family is sometimes more important than baseball.

Pedroia’s statement tells the entire story. From the statement, it’s obvious that, while disappointed he won’t be able to play, family is more important and that he has the full support of the Red Sox organization.

Keep this story on your frig as a reminder that gone are the days of the sacrifice of the family in the name of the game, recital, play or whatever. In today’s culture what makes a true hero, in sports or otherwise, is knowing when to put family first.

  • Pedroia is definitely an All-Star in my book. What a great role model for kids! My son has his poster on his door.

  • Good post. We need more stories like this.

  • I was excited for Pedroia to be named as an all-star again this year but this story is very refreshing. It's nice to see a professional athlete act as a professional and understand the priorities in his life.
