Bullies are a huge problem for our kids today, on and offline. This week we continue our conversation by focusing on solutions that help our kids once we know our kids are being bullied. This week, we are joined by “the bully coach”, Dr. Joel Haber, who will offer practical suggestions for talking to our kids, working with the schools and sorting out when to seek additional help.

Last weekend, Friday to Saturday, was the National Day of Unplugging…and I missed it. Even if I knew of it’s existence last week, I wouldn’t have been able to participate due to a deadline that actually couldn’t be missed.

So, the Health Care Reform Bill passes yesterday in the House.
Some people want to embrace this moment as a victory because any health care bill that becomes law is better than nothing. I heard a lot of “this was a long time coming”, “finally”, “it was our time yesterday”, and comments like that.

Bullies are a huge problem for our kids today, on and offline. This week we start a multiweek conversation to try and figure out the problem, learn how to help our kids, and find ways to work with our schools and community groups to stop the bullies and help the victims.

My family has a tradition to give each a cute or whimsical calendar as one of our Christmas presents. The the goal is fun and laughter…to brighten each other’s day as we get through another year.
This year, my family found the “Getting In Touch With Your Inner Bitch” calendar and it is hysterical at times and thought provoking at others.

One of the situations I found most challenging as an ER doc is seeing a teen for teen “medical clearance”. This phrase is code for “emotional crisis with a possible major psychiatric issue.”
