Quote of the Week: can’t we all play nice?

My family has a tradition to give each a cute or whimsical calendar as one of our Christmas presents.  The the goal is fun and laughter…to brighten each other’s day as we get through another year.

This year, my family found the “Getting In Touch With Your Inner Bitch” calendar and it is hysterical at times and thought provoking at others.

To kick off a new feature that I”m starting this week, Quote of The Week, I want to share a quote from a recent day of “Getting In Touch With Your Inner Bitch” that I found so spot on that I put it on my bulletin board:

“Inner Bitch Food for Thought:

Imagine the kind of earth-shattering
changes that might happen if women
actually supported one another. Can you say
‘No more glass ceiling’?”

I thought of this quote today as I darted about the supermarket on a quest for cookies for my daughter’s orchestra. I passed a mom I used to be friends with and she walked by me as if I were either someone she never knew or part of the store display. We had a disagreement a few years ago and our kids who used to be friends are no longer friends. I try to say “hi” to her when I see her and have noticed she’s only friendly if I’m there with my husband or she’s accompanied by her husband. If she’s alone, I’m truly no one to her any more. Sad that people have to be like that to each other. Friendships do molt, change and sometimes end but do we have to be mean to one another?  I worry what message we give to our kids by this behavior – not a good one, that’s for sure.

Sadly, I’ve learned from friends they, too, have had experiences like this with other women. How about you?

Let’s agree to stop and just be nice. We don’t have to be buddy, buddy…just nice. Ok?
