Fit Tip # 2

Exercise Without Moving!

Eric Cressey

February 2007

Believe it or not, sometimes, keeping kids active doesn't require moving at all! During the winter months, when the kids are stuck inside due to cold weather, you can use various isometric holds to keep them active while improving muscular strength and endurance.

Here are some ideas:

1. Push-up hold

Hold in the bottom position of a push-up.

2. Side bridges

Hold in a side-lying position with just one forearm and the feet supporting the body's weight.

3. Prone bridges

Hold in the face-down position with just the forearms and feet supporting the body's weight.

4. Squat holds

Hold in the bottom position of a squat (the knees should be bent to a 90-degree angle).

5. Split squat holds

Hold in the bottom position of a lunge.

You can easily work in challenges to see who can hold each position the longest. Have fun!
