Common Toddler Illnesses and Injuries

If there are two pearls of wisdom I can impart to you about toddlers it is this: they will have many boo-boos and there will be times you will be convinced your toddler is “always sick” and you should change your address to that of your pediatrician’s office.

Toddlers are the captains of the boo-boo and “bug” brigades.  While most boo-boos are minor and require nothing more than a kiss, and most “bugs” are viruses that clear before you can reach for the phone, there are times some injuries and illnesses can be serious and require more care. Safety Proofing When Away From Home

Safety proofing. One of those necessary evils of parenting we love and hate all at once. We love the fact that we are protecting out infants and very young children, yet if only it were easier to accomplish at times…and if our tots had a bit less Houdini in them. Still, safety proofing measures do minimize injury and provide us with peace of mind during a very chaotic time in our kids’ lives.

Childhood Obesity: talking & listening to your kids

Childhood obesity is a challenging problem. As difficult as it is for a parent to acknowledge that their child is overweight, it is even more daunting for that parent to figure out how to even being to talk to the child about loosing weight. Many parents wonder if they should have the discussion at all.

Some experts worry that discussing weight issues with kids may create body image problems, problems. But many experts, including me, feel the exact opposite. It is crucial to talk with your child because overweight kids know they have a problem and are in huge pain as a result.

Kids and Milk: the scoop on flavoring and calcium

Got milk? Most refrigerators do, but most kids’ bodies do not once they get past the ripe old age of 2. It’s like an unspoken force in the universe that says to all toddlers at some point “thou shall not drink milk!”  With future bone health at stake, the path to breaking this force within our kids turns out to be one of the most counter intuitive, yet simple methods there is: flavoring the milk.
