Wayland, MA. May 30, 2006. Pediatrics Now today announced its sponsorship of Healthy Wayland and the Healthy Wayland Fair on Saturday June 10, 2006 from 12pm -4pm at the Longfellow Club in Wayland, MA. "Being able to contribute to the health of Wayland is important to me not only as a resident but as a way to give back to a community that has given so much to me for so many years." Dr. Gwenn grew up in Wayland and was a 1984 graduate of Wayland High School.

Healthy Wayland is part of the Healthy People 2010 initiative and endorsed by the Wayland Board of Health. Exhibitors, speakers, demonstrations are planned for all ages. Dr. O'Keeffe is Chief Finanical Officer for this new non-profit project and is organizing the Youth Sports section of the fair.

"Youth Sports is in major need of reform", notes Dr. Gwenn. "Kids bodies are being pushed past their limits and the value of just playing and having fun is being overshadowed by pressure and the need to win. Dr. Gwenn has gathered some of the Nations leading experts in Youth Sports and Youth Sports reform including Bruce Svare, PhD, Director of the National Institute for Sports Reform, Bob Bigelow, former NBA player and Youth Sports speaker, and Dr. Pierre D'Hemecourt from Boston Children's Hospital Department of Orthopedics. In addition, John Passarini, former Wayland School System Adaptive Physical Educatino teacher, will be talking about the need for fun with activity. Mr. Passarini's view is "Nobody is disabled - just differently abled".

About Pediatrics Now

Pediatrics Now was founded in 2005 by Gwenn Schurgin O’Keeffe, M.D., F.A.A.P. As a mother and pediatrician, Dr. O’Keeffe saw a void in consumer health information for today’s busy families and developed www.pediatricsnow.com to help close that gap. An experienced columnist, Dr. Gwenn’s column, Your Child’s Health, is syndicated through the  Community Newspaper Company family of publications, including Parents and Kids, MetroWest Daily New, and the Wayland and Weston Town Criers.  Dr. Gwenn is also on the Editorial Advisory Board to Parents and Kids.

Features of Pediatrics Now include health information for parents and kids, health tools and charts such as growth charts and immunization schedules, a forum to ask questions and get answers and Your Child’s Health Blog, co-sponsored with Parents and Kids.

“Our readers greatly benefit from Dr. O'Keeffe's monthly columns in Parents and Kids”, says Heather Kempskie, Editor, Parents and Kids.  “With her varied background in pediatric care, she's able to tackle issues on both the medical and behavioral front and does so by delivering it in a comprehensive and friendly manner. It’s like having a relaxed one-on-one conversation with your child's pediatrician - which doesn't happen often enough!”

Pediatrics Now also provides professional medical and health writing services.  More information on Pediatrics Now’s Professional Services can be found at www.pediatricsnow.com/professional_services.html.
